“Cricket is Boring”
And Thirteen More Good Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Get Involved
Who could possibly be interested in reviving cricket at a 170-year-old English village cricket ground, helping to rebuild a sporting tradition and giving it a future?
Certainly not you.
So, here are thirteen perfectly good reasons to leave well alone.
THIRTEEN PERFECTLY GOOD REASONS
- You’ll have to spend time outdoors, breathing fresh air.
- You might find yourself facing a challenge.
- Wirral’s oldest village cricket ground has had a good innings. Surely it’s time to call it a day?
- It might cost you a few pounds — and take you away from your phone.
- Cricket is boring. Everybody knows that.
- You can’t bat. You can’t bowl. You probably don’t even know which end of the bat to hold.
- Somebody might ask you to roll up your sleeves and do some honest physical work.
- English traditions are old-fashioned. Why bother preserving them?
- You haven’t played cricket since school. Perhaps you’ve never played at all.
- It would be better used to help with the housing crisis.
- “Cricket definitely doesn’t benefit the people who actually use the park every day”
(A comment on Facebook) - You’ve never heard of Eastham.
- And where on earth is the Wirral Peninsula?

So there you are. Thirteen excellent reasons to look elsewhere.
Please don’t press the red button. It would be unfair to take up any more of your time.
However, if you’re just a little curious, try the green button.
